Dressember :: Day 5

First, I can’t forget to share this photo today of my team mate.

dressember 5 b

This month, one lucky winner will receive a medium, Urban Peasant neckwear in Slate, as shown in today’s Dressember photo. This piece is knit with 100% merino wool that is hand-spun and kettle-dyed and has a $45 value! (*will come with a similar cuff to the one in the photo).

I have never done this before and am going to keep things simple. So, there a few ways you can enter this giveaway:

Easy Entry – share what you like about Dressember – just leave a comment stating something you like about this campaign based on what you know so far.

Optional additional entries (you can do none or all of these – leave a separate comment for each entry):

1. Participate in Dressember – get on over there and sign up to participate by wearing a dress each day for the rest of December. Leave a comment letting me know, with a link to your campaign page.

2. Donate to Dressember – head over to my campaign page and make a donation to this cause. Leave a comment letting me know.

3. Learn more about Dressember and IJM – visit this link and explore the IJM site to learn more about their work. Leave a comment that shares something meaningful you learned. You don’t have to stay on that page – explore their site as you please.

This is largely based on the honour system and I will choose a winner from the comments using a random number generator. Good luck and thanks for supporting this great cause!

Peace,

Kris

Giveaway ends Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 12pm CST. Open to Legal Residents (18 years of age or older) of Canada. Winner will be selected by random number generator and be notified by email. Winner will have 48 hours to respond before a new winner is selected. The product offered for the giveaway is free of charge, no purchase necessary.

The GIVEWAY is now CLOSED. Thank you! I will contact the winner via email.

The winner is Michelle:

I like this event because it’s for a great cause. I love hearing about people being set free! (we are part of a team – the DELTA team – with Exodus Road that works to rescue victims of sex trafficking.https://www.theexodusroad.com/). I want to see/hear so much more! It’s unreal to me that in this point of history, there is more slavery than ever before. And the amount of abuse people are living through, every day, is absolutely heartbreaking. Events like this are good because there still is a need to raise awareness about the injustices happening in the world. Some people just don’t know. And some people still don’t get it.

  1. Well I liked the idea mostly because I have had doing justice on my heart but not entirely sure what to do… This seemed like a fun way to align myself with a cause I feel strongly about. And dress up.

    1. I’m glad you did it, and that you shared it. What do your kiddos think about it? Cohen had an “aw shucks, i don’t have any dresses” moment. I have been trying to think of a way for them to participate if they want. Maybe bowcember? They have bow ties ; ) Or, I suppose they could wear dresses if they want, we just don’t have any…

  2. Hey! I’m participating in Dressember (justact.ijm.ca/alysalovely) and I’m really enjoying it so far. I love that this idea started as a style challenge, and has turned into something that is happening all over the world, and for such a great cause.

  3. Thanks Kris for starting an act like this that marks your body as set apart to remember these people and to meditate on hope and a future for so many in pain and disparity. This is a growing concern right here in Winnipeg and I would like to do something about it.

    1. Thanks, Maria. Maybe we can organize a more local event like this here. I’m guessing that someone is doing something already and we just need to link into it.

I love your words here – an act like this that marks your body as set apart to remember these people and to meditate on hope and a future for so many in pain and disparity – THANK YOU.

    1. Thanks for sharing about Exodus Road – will look into it. And for sharing your thoughts on this heartbreaking problem.

  5. This has got to be a great way to introduce human rights to young girls because it’s a fun, tangible thing they can do. Is Breanne doing this with you? What were her thoughts on the campaign? What about the boys? Did they want to do something also to contribute or raise awareness?

    1. That is so true about it being a great way to approach human rights with young girls. Breann is doing it as well. Cohen was wishing he had some dresses. We are talking about it in bits here and there and at the dinner table with everyone.

  6. Hey Kris, I gave a small donation to the cause! Thanks for making me aware of this. Maybe I’ll have to collect some dresses so I can do this next year with you!

    1. Thanks, Janaya. For sure collect some dresses – OR make it even more of a challenge and wear just one or two dresses for the whole month! Check out the Uniform Project for inspiration…

  7. I LOVE that Dressember is partnered with IJM because of the important work they do. I think they are an incredible organization and I am so happy to do anything I can to help raise funds so they can continue to rescue victims of human trafficking and slavery and give them hope and a new future!

  8. Wow, I am so excited that I won!!! I was just admiring your pieces at the craft sale… can’t believe I get to have my ver own. Thank you SO much, Kris 🙂
